SONGSWELL - autumn songs

This album is a collection of all the songs that do not belong in the purely electronic/cosmic/krautrock genre we made during the first four years of our cooperation. Though some draft versions of the these songs had been sitting in our hard disks for quite a while, this is the first time they've been completed and released.

1) SONGSWELL - min. 6.31
A beautiful garden, light blue flowers everywhere; tall weeping willows surround a clearing, and in the middle of it stands the well from which all music comes. We always liked this song but - though we worked on it on and off for several years - we didn't seem to find the right way to express what it made us feel. Then in 2002 we finally found that delicate balance that allowed us to finally record this version, and now we just love it.
2) I WISH - min. 7.31
Sometimes you wish your life was different; maybe there is nothing you can do about it, because things aren't always under your control. However, there are many more things you can change than you think, so now and then just stop, analyze your life and then start changing those things one by one. Even small changes can create a positive chain reaction and lead to much greater ones.
3) JUMP 16 - min. 4.01
Fortunately, there are times of careless joy and happiness in life. And even if it's hard to forget about that little, dull pain deep inside of us, sometimes something very simple can make us feel well and in peace.
4) SEPTEMBER 1724 - min. 1.53 - written by Sbrizzi FaBIO, co-written, arranged and performed by Mac
Most people have a date that is particularly important to them, a day, or a month, or a year that made their lives different. When FaBIO came up with this title I was puzzled and asked him why he had thought of this date, and he just said,"Why not?" And he was right; after all there must have been somebody who lived in that period to whom that month had a special meaning...

5) LADY RIVER - min. 4.39

The huge stone castle stands on the moor, surrounded and almost hidden by the thick fog that rises from the land and the swamps. All is silence. In the tall tower a woman sits at the window looking down at the river that runs alongside the castle, her only company in her immense sadness.

6) THE LOSERS - min. 5.31
- performed by BIOnighT, written and arranged by Mac from a song originally written by BIOnighT

The soldiers walk into their hometown, all sixty of them still wearing their worn out uniforms; their eyes tell stories of horror and infinite tiredness. They look dead, but they are only dead inside. They lost the war, and none of their fellow citizens who are staring at them from behind their windows and from the street corners cheer at them; nobody gives them the hero's welcome, the veterans are only surrounded by an embarassed silence. Only an old man yells,"Hurray for our boys!" and from the look of his wrinkled face you call tell that he's been there, too, and knows what they are going thru. The exhausted men head for a bar, where they will be met by the same silence. But it doesn't matter, because from now on they will be different from all those who haven't seen and done what they have, and they will just go thru the motions of a life, haunted by memories and defeat...

7) SONGSWELL - Mac RMX - min. 5.30

Remix by Mac; there is actually another remix by Mac of this track, but we thought it was better not to include it in this album in order not to make it too repetitious.

8) LITTLECUTESONGFROMTHESWISSMOUNTAINS - min. 0.31

The completion of a song is always followed by the delicate stage of starting a new one, and in this phase the questions are always: "what kind of piece shall we work on now?" and "where do we start from?" One night, after finishing one track, we said, "Let's write a Celtic style piece now!" and so we started running our fingers on the keyboard looking for a suitable melody. What came out was instead this extremely humorous melody that reminded us of one of those traditional songs from the Swiss mountains, only in a distortedly funny version. We burst out in laughters, and we recorded the whole thing basically rolling on the floor, barely able to hear what we were doing... It was such fun for us that we decided that we just couldn't keep it to ourselves, so here it is. After all making music is also about having fun, isn't it?

9) THING - min. 5.38

Shop windows, maybe in Tokyo, maybe elsewhere. People crowd the streets at night, immersed in the thousands of colors of the artificial lights, looking at the glittering objects in the windows, looking for that very special thing they want. And when they find it, they will take it with them to the quiet of their home...

10) A LIFE - min. 13.46

Life is a series of events; most of the time it is just made of routine or small things, but at times we are shaken by powerful emotions and feelings.... Each person's life is different than everybody else's, but they all have one thing in common: life is a road we walk, with a beginning and an end.
