OUR STORY...

It is the end of a day like many when FaBIO, going home after work, sees a young hitchhiker, Abraham. Following a mysterious impulse, he decides to give him a ride. The kid's sweet and clean face prompts him to start a conversation about the CD's the kid has with him, even if that's not his kind of music. Abraham, though, reveals that his uncle - Mac - shares FaBIO's insane passion for "classic" electronic music and for all those musicians most people don't even know exist; FaBIO decides he wants to meet this "extraterrestrial".
Following his dashing and enthusiastic nature, he calls Mac that very night; during the brief talk they find out they live about five minutes by car from each other - another strange coincidence. They meet around one hour later and immediately understand that they can communicate their emotions together to anybody who is willing to listen, thru the universal language of music.
It's January 1999 when in the BIOlofT the duo begins to work on their first album, Egoheart 1999, mixing their individual experiences and taking their modest gear where no such instrument has gone before. The album is made up of five pieces and one suite, which is named after the band (and vice versa): BIOnighT. The demo is sent to several labels, but no positive result comes out of that; our heroes soon realize that their music doesn't fit into the limits labels impose for commercial reasons and start looking for different channels of distribution.

The web seems to be the perfect means to spread their musical message without restrictions and without having to make their music "commercial"(in the negative sense of the word). A promo of their first album - Egoheart 1999 - is sent to several websites on electronic music to have it reviewed. Among them there is also a German website called Syngate, which publishes some very flattering comments about the CD. This would turn out to be a more important encounter than they thought at that time... In fact, after a few months, Syngate's boss decides to start his own label, and BIOnighT are among the first artists to be contacted and later released by Syngate. A new phase had begun...

This little adventure - so small, yet so important to us - continues...

A "THANK YOU" NOTE from Mac (and FaBIO, too)...
Like so many artists all over the world, I live on a very tight budget which - quite simply - prevents me from buying all those costly music machines you can see under the fingers of people like Jarre or Vangelis. This has very often stopped me from making music at all in the past, but fortunately that is no longer the case. Why? Well, because on this planet where everything and (horrible to say) every life turns on money, there's a bunch of mad scientists who create some wonderful virtual instruments and make them available for free to anybody willing and happy to make music with them.
These instruments and effects units called "VST's" are basically (for the non musicians among you) synthesizers etc. in the form of software; the machine is no longer a "physical" object, but an image on the computer screen that generates sounds and noises just like a "real" musical machine. The hardware versions of those machines would cost so much that so many people like me would be forced not to play, and therefore a lot less genuine, non-market-driven music would exist.
I've been using with more than satisfactory results all the free VST's I've found since the end of 2004, and BIOnighT have been using them since their "The Rain is Over" album. The limitations to creativity are very, very few. So, a HUGE "Thank you!!" goes out to all those brilliant, talented, and so very generous developers thanks to whom music can go on!!
Oh, and for the curious musicians among you, HERE is a partial and incomplete list of the VST's we use.
Try them out, they are greater than you would expect!
